Our History

The First Baptist Church of Ralls, Texas had its beginning with a group of people with the missionary spirit. In the year 1891, Rev. J.W. Wynn and twenty other dedicated Christians banded themselves together and organized the Emma Baptist Church at Emma, Texas, five miles south of Ralls and then the county seat of Crosby County. Doubtless they and many others who have followed them suffered many hardships and disappointments, but because of their unshakable faith in the living God, they pressed on.

A house of worship was built in the town of Emma in 1909 and was later moved into Ralls where the church met for worship until they built a new building in the Spring of 1915. On November 17, 1915, the members voted to change the name from the Emma Baptist Church to the First Baptist Church of Ralls. The church building was torn down in 1929 and a modern brick structure was erected upon the same site at a cost of $35,000.00. The sanctuary we have today and the older educational wing were built in 1954. The structure built in 1929 was torn down in 1967 in order that we might build our present educational facilities.

Our Hispanic Mission was organized in 1958 and completed a new building in 1973 at a total cost of $55,000.00.

Through the years we have had Vacation Bible Schools and participated in various camps at Plains Baptist Assembly. We have always given generously to local, national, and international missions, and have been involved in many volunteer missions projects.
