Summer is always a bustling season for First Baptist Church, but July was especially remarkable as our young people gathered for Boys Camp, Youth Camp, and church members participated in powerful mission opportunity with West Texas Camps and Retreats. While these weeks are packed with high-energy fun, the true heart of camp ministry is in spending time with God away from the distractions of everyday life and growing in fellowship with fellow believers.
We owe a great debt of gratitude to brother Anthony Castro for his extraordinary dedication and leadership this summer. Anthony served as our primary group leader for both Boys Camp and Youth Camp and then stepped up to serve as the main camp speaker for a special needs camp at Circle 6 Baptist Camp and organized by West Texas Camps & Retreats, a ministry started and operated by Wayne and Penny Davis.
We also want to recognize sisters Sofie Doolittle and Ashley Shaw who also served at that special needs camp. Sofie was an adult sponsor at both Youth Camp and the special needs camp and then stepped up on the following Sunday morning (July 26) to lead in worship.
I am convinced that God was at work at each camp. I saw our leaders investing in the students and demonstrating God’s ways for them. We rejoice because God is actively working in and through the lives of His people, both young and old.
I am confident the Lord is going to do amazing things through the young people that went to camp and through the people that stood behind them, supported them, prayed for them, or gave so that they could attend. God is on the move, let us continue to join Him in His work.
